چکیده

We prove that the coindex of the box complex B(H) of a graph H can be measured by the generalised Mycielski graphs which admit a homomorphism to it. As a consequence, we exhibit for every graph H a system of linear equations solvable in polynomial time, with the following properties: If the system has no solutions, then coind(B(H))+2 ≤ 3; if the system has solutions, then χ(H) ≥ 4. We generalise the method to other bounds on chromatic numbers using linear algebra.

Bounds on the Generalised Acyclic Chromatic Numbers of Bounded Degree Graphs

We give upper bounds for the generalised acyclic chromatic number and generalised acyclic edge chromatic number of graphs with maximum degree d, as a function of d. We also produce examples of graphs where these bounds are of the correct order.

Local chromatic number and the Borsuk-Ulam Theorem

The local chromatic number of a graph was introduced in [13]. It is in between the chromatic and fractional chromatic numbers. This motivates the study of the local chromatic number of graphs for which these quantities are far apart. Such graphs include Kneser graphs, their vertex color-critical subgraphs, the stable Kneser (or Schrijver) graphs; Mycielski graphs, and their generalizations; and...

The fractional chromatic number of Zykov products of graphs

Zykov designed one of the oldest known family of triangle-free graphs with arbitrarily high chromatic number. We determine the fractional chromatic number of the Zykov product of a family of graphs. As a corollary, we deduce that the fractional chromatic numbers of the Zykov graphs satisfy the same recurrence relation as those of the Mycielski graphs, that is an+1 = an + 1 an . This solves a co...
